Under Dian’s guidance, the companies he managed built strong bonds with the community as partners in development. He was able to mobilize resources to uplift the communities in multiple sectors and regions.

  1. Education – One of Dian’s primary commitments was towards education and technology stems from the desire to uplift the quality of life of fellow citizens.

  1. Health – Dian extended his support to enhance the health-care facilities, with a focus on women’s and children’s health issues and hygiene to ensure a healthier future generation for the country.

  2. Social Issues of the community – Dian’s focus was mainly on issues affecting women and children, relating to his workforce, which is predominantly women, and the future generation of the country.
    1. (i) Women Go Beyond
      “MAS Women Go Beyond” is the MAS strategic CSR initiative. Since the launch of the programme at Slimline it has been empowering women at work place
    2. (ii) Ranavirugama
      Opening the doors for an era of healing Slimline took the initiative to construct twenty houses for the brave young soldiers of our land; the heroes who have sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of peace for our beloved island.

  3. Village Regeneration – Developing sustainable livelihoods to the people within the community, Dian’s focus was mostly related to capacity building.

    Tsunami Projects – “Senehasa Piyasa”

    With Dian’s initiative, MAS launched their relief effort commencing with assisting their own employees from affected areas. MAS pledged to build a house for each and every employee who lost one, a cause aggressively championed by Dian. The projects were funded by MAS, employees and donors coming together.

    (i) Hikkaduwa Site
    In the Hikkaduwa district MAS built 25 homes for the community, which was unveiled on the 19th of December 2005. This project was funded through the MAS Tsunami Fund at a cost of LKR 18 million.

    (ii) Tittagala Site – Galle
    Nineteen employees of Unichela Koggala were left desolate after the Tsunami. Slimline together with Unichela Koggala built 19 homes, with a playground and two common wells, at a cost of LKR 20 million. Tittagala site was opened on the 29th Sep 2005.

    (iii) Milleniya Site Panadura
    The employees of MAS Unichela in Panadura were some of those who were worst affected with a total of 41 persons losing homes. In view of providing them permanent shelter, the Milleniya project was launched in June, 2005. This was the largest MAS Tsunami Project.

    1. Environment – Whilst internally taking steps to reduce resource use especially energy and water, MAS has always looked at supporting local initiatives to work with us on recycling and reusing resources. In recognition of its efforts, MAS Intimates were awarded with the CIMA Corporate Citizen Award as well as the Community Leader Awards in 2006.
